My deepest sympathy to the whole Carrels Family. DJ was a very special man. He will be deeply missed. I worked Chair side for him back in 1978 - 82. I was there when he made Sue & Tim's wedding rings. I always looked forward to my 2 page hand written Christmas card... Heaven just got another angel..

Dr. Carrels was my dentist growing up. In 1981 after a basketball practice accident he came to the office after hours to fix my teeth and stitch up my gums. He was very calming to this scared freshman girl. My deepest condolences to your family.

Dear Marilyn and family, I am so sorry to hear about Don's passing. He was a wonderful man blessed with life's best qualities – kindness, strength, humility, and generosity. I couldn't have had more respect and affection for a man and his family than I did for Don and all of you. He was just a hell of a guy! The last time I saw Don was at Gordie Bell's memorial at Prairiewood. We had such a nice visit and shared some old stories and laughs with that twinkle in his eye as bright as ever. We Siegels were so fortunate to not only have Don as our family dentist, but also as our next-door neighbor and friend. None better. Again, my heartfelt sympathies to all of you wonderful Carrels. We Siegels all loved Don, and we love you too.

A great family and a wonderful father.... a true representative of the "greatest generation." Don always encouraged me. I remember taking my bicycle back to a class reunion. I happened to run into Don and Marilyn on Lilac Lane cleaning up fallen branches after a storm. I was invited in for a wonderful lunch and visit. I also recall when I avoided novocaine to save a few $$$ and Dr. Carrels managed to still be gentle with a stubborn old mule. Blessings to all (Pete/Susan), and a life well lived. Steve, Oregon

What a great father, grandfather, brother, son, and humanitarian. Although so far away, I will always cherish the time spent at your folk's home, Grandma Marie's at Christmas, our canoe trip, time spent at Muench's Resort, and his visit to our home in Indianapolis. I only wish we were closer in proximity to become even closer. Much love, affection and prayers to all of you!! Love, Peter

Dr. C. was my dentist from childhood until I finished college and left SD. When cavities were small, he didn't insist on novacaine for people who were "afraid of the needle."
He would say, "Well, let's get started and if something hurts just raise your hand and I'll stop." I don't think I ever raised my hand, but it was comforting to know he gave me the option.

Whistling! My dad was quite the whistler, and in his office, while he worked, he whistled like a song bird!! No one could whistle a Marty Robbins tune like my dad! Thanks, Mark, for remembering his whistling.
