Arthur “Art” Francis Lanham, 89, of Aberdeen, passed away Thursday, March 9, 2017, at Aberdeen Health and Rehab.

Mass of Christian burial will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 16, 2017, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 409 3rd Avenue SE, Aberdeen, with Father Mark Lichter as celebrant.

Burial, with military rites, will take place at Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, at the mortuary, with a liturgical wake service beginning at 7:00 p.m.  Visitation continues one hour prior to Mass at the church on Thursday.  

Arthur Francis Lanham was born on November 22, 1927, to Thomas Eugene and Emma (Staebell) Lanham in Monroe, SD.  Art furthered his education at Nettleton College and graduated in 1948.

Art served his country in the United States Army from 1950 until 1952.  

Following his honorable discharge, Art was united in marriage to Dolores Haney on April 28, 1953. The family lived in Watertown and Sioux Falls before settling in Aberdeen, where Art was employed for 30 years with South Dakota Job Services.

Art served on the Governor’s Vocational Educator’s Advisory Council, was elected to the South Dakota Board of Retirees, and also worked on their retirement plan.  He held offices in the Aberdeen Hockey Association and Aberdeen Area Modelaires Club, and was a member of the Sidney L. Smith American Legion Post #24, Knights of Columbus, and Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Art was an avid ham radio operator and photographer.  He also enjoyed flying model airplanes and researching family genealogy.

Art is survived by his children:  Terri Mitchell of Sioux Falls, SD, Ann Hegge of Mina, SD, Pat (Doug) Goth of Cape Coral FL and Chuck (DonaRae) Lanham of Portland, OR; grandchildren:  Cory (Seth) Heitzman, Rebecca (Andy) Carrendar, Chase Lanham and Mackenzie Lanham; six great-grandchildren; siblings, Rose Mcguire and Gerry Lanham; and several nieces and nephews.

Art is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dolores; and two sisters, Rita Hubert and Betty Dunn.
