Marie Jane Lahr was born March 31, 1921 to Joseph and Catherine (Hoffman) Lahr in Frederick, SD. She attended school in that area through the 9th grade.
On January 27, 1941 Marie was united in marriage to Frank Voeller. This marriage was blessed with a daughter, Frances, born in 1943 and a son, Dennis, born in 1948. The family made their home on a farm near Frederick. Marie enjoyed the hard working farm life. In addition to helping in the field and being able to run all the equipment, she was still able to manage to cook a large meal for all the hired men. Not long after her husband?s death in August of 1966, Marie moved from the farm. Her son, Dennis, remained and still calls the farm home today. Marie lived in a couple of different locations before she made her final residence on her daughter Frances' farm near Frederick in 1994.
Marie loved the outdoors, particularly tending to the petunias and many other flowers she would plant every year. When she wasn't outside tending to her beautiful flowers, she could be found inside canning, cooking, sewing or doing needlework. Many of the handmade items showed the quality of work she did by receiving purple ribbons in the open class division at the fair.
Survivors include her daughter, Frances Gage; her son, Dennis (Donna) Voeller; one sister, Irene Kopetsky and one brother, Leonard (Dorothy) Lahr, all of Frederick; two grandchildren, Shelly Gage of Heerlen, The Netherlands and Cheryl (Bryan) Fehr of Aberdeen; five great-grandchildren, Kelly and Frank Schoumakers of Heerlen, The Netherlands and Samantha, Austin and Cole Fehr of Aberdeen; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Frank; her parents; three sisters, Erma, Nellie and Vera and four brothers, Ed, Pete, Billy and Tony.
