James passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at his home.

James Eugene Tooker was born August 25, 1943 to Clayton A. and Martha L. (Pautsch) Tooker in Aberdeen, SD.  He graduated from Aberdeen High School in 1962.  While in high school, Jim worked for his dad’s electrical business and at the neighborhood city service station.  He was also employed with the Milwaukee Railroad, Safeguard Industries, Parcel Erikson, Grote Brothers Body Shop, Al’s Specialties, and NSU.

Jim and Mavis Scherbenske were united in marriage June 24, 1972 in Aberdeen.

Jim spent endless hours in his garage fixing and restoring various types of automobiles.  He enjoyed woodworking, doing home projects and making things for his grandchildren.  His favorite pastime was spending time with his family including his grandchildren, Maegan, Tristan, Tanah, and especially going to breakfast with Paige at the Airport Cafe.

Jim enjoyed boating, listening to music, and traveling.  He looked forward to our family vacations every year (always taking the backroads).  One of his favorite trips was to Branson, MO, which he made four times.

Between his years of work and being home Jim spent his days at the Adult Day Services.  He was able to spend his last years at home, with Mavis, who took care of him.  While Mavis was at work he had amazing caregivers, Christine Noble, Sandy Wakely, Nancy Mitchell and especially Vickie Ettles who was with Jim for the past 6½ years since he’s been home.

Jim is preceded in death by his son, Clayton James Tooker, one sister Sharon Maynard and his parents.

Grateful to have shared Jim’s life are his wife, Mavis of Aberdeen, SD, his daughters Michelle (Chris) Graves of Rochester, MN, and Lynette (Jason) Messerole of Warner, SD, one sister, Shari (Larry) Scherbenske of Aberdeen, SD, and his four wonderful grandchildren, Maegan Graves, Tristan Graves, Paige Tooker and Tanah Messerole.
