Mass of Christian Burial for Frederick "Fred" Schmidt, 65, of Aberdeen will be 11:00am Friday, May 6, 2011 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Aberdeen. Father J. Joseph Holzhauser will be officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens with military rites by the Sidney L. Smith American Legion Post #24 of Aberdeen. Schriver's Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, Aberdeen is in charge of arrangements.
Liturgical wake service will be 7:00pm Thursday, May 5, 2011 at the mortuary. Visitation will be 5-7pm Thursday at the morturary and one hour prior to the service Friday at the church. Friends my sign his online guestbook at the bottom of the page.
Fred passed away Tuesday, May 3, 2011 after a courageous battle with cancer at ManorCare Health Service.
Frederick A. Schmidt was born August 23, 1945 to Leo and Catherine (Feist) Schmidt in Aberdeen where he was raised and graduated from Aberdeen Central High School in 1963.
Fred entered the US Air Force and served three tours of duty in the Vietnam War. He served for over twenty years in the air force before receiving his honorable discharge.
Fred married Charlene Young in November of 1974. He resided in Fair Oakes, CA where he was employed with Aerojet as a Rocket Technician for many years. He moved to Aberdeen in 2004 and has resided here since that time.
Fred enjoyed hunting, working with wood and was an avid fisherman. He taught country style dancing and was a Minnesota Viking football fan. He was very fond of his black lab, Wesly, his true companion and best friend. Fred was a member of the Aberdeen Moose Lodge.
Surviving Fred are one daughter, Emily Lewis, seven sisters, Marge Bosanko Dutenhoeffer of Aberdeen, Gert McBurney of Aberdeen, Angie Usselman of Aberdeen, Irene Schmidt of Aberdeen, Mary Susan Rohrich of Pierre, SD, Darlene (Jim) Johnson of Aberdeen and Kathy (Garry) Johnson of Aberdeen, one brother, Edward (Fran) Moch of Oakes, ND and many nieces and nephews.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Josephine and one brother, Leo.
Family prefers memorials in lieu of flowers.
