Mass Of Christian Burial for Albert V. ?Al? Sauer, Sr., 84, Aberdeen, will be 2:30pm Friday, February 4, 2011 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 409 2nd Ave. NE. Father Jeff Norfolk will officiate. Burial with military rites will be at St. Mary's Cemetery at a later date.
Liturgical wake followed by family rosary will begin at 7pm Thursday, February 3, at Schriver's Memorial Mortuary & Crematory, 414 5th Ave. NW. Visitation will be 4-7pm Thursday at the mortuary and one hour prior to the Mass on Friday, at the church.
Al passed away Monday, January 31, 2011 at his home.
Albert V. Sauer was born September 11, 1926 to Michael John and Amelia (Schwan) Sauer in Aberdeen, SD. He attended Aberdeen Schools and then worked at K.O.Lee Company.
Albert entered the United State Army February 9, 1945 and served until his honorable discharged on August 8, 1946. He returned to Aberdeen and was employed with Booker Fruits. Albert and Mary "Mae" Thornton were united in marriage July 15, 1947 in Aberdeen, SD, where they continued to make their home. Al was employed with Hams Distributing and later with Ballard Distributing until he retired.
He enjoyed repairing cars and lawn mowers, using his power tools and going to basketball games and car races with his brother, Joe. He also enjoyed going to Mina Lake where he played yard games. Al loved being with his grandchildren and great grandchildren including his twin great granddaughters Bailey and Taylor Erickson. He is preceded in death by two sons, Steve and Ronald Sauer, one sister Lorraine and his parents.
Grateful to have shared in Al's life is his wife of 63 years, Mary "Mae" Sauer of Aberdeen, SD, his children, Diane (Ron) Fischer of Groton, SD, Charles "Chuck" (Claudia) Sauer and Debra "Deb" Sauer both of Aberdeen, SD, Al (Annette) Sauer, Jr. of Dell City, OK, Michael "Mike" (Mindy) Sauer of Lubbock, TX, and Shelly (Don) Jones of Bath, SD. Eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. His siblings, Mike Sauer of Sioux Falls, SD, Andy (Jane) Sauer of San Bernardino, CA, Joe Sauer of Aberdeen, SD, Leone Duttenhoffer of Roscoe, SD, Kati Gill of IL, Connie Chapin of GA, Darlene (Jeff) Harlan and Dorothy (Harry) Bruce both of TX.
