Harlan passed away Tuesday, November 15, 2011 in the Hospice Program at Avera Mother Joseph Manor, Aberdeen.
William Harlan Rehfeld was born in Warner, South Dakota on March 27, 1926 to Louis and Hilda (Schuchhardt) Rehfeld. He attended school in Warner and farmed until being drafted into the United States Navy. An early release from the Navy led him to later being drafted into the United States Army where he served his country as a Staff Sergeant in the 999th Artillery during the Korean War. After his Honorable Discharge from the Army, Harlan returned to Warner and was united in marriage to Katherine Ducheneaux. Their marriage was blessed with one son, Blake. The family then moved to the Minneapolis area in 1958, where Harlan worked as a cement mason. In 1972, the family moved back to Aberdeen, where Harlan owned a mobile home sales business until the time of his retirement.
Harlan was a lifetime member of the Warner American Legion. He loved gardening, fishing and was also known around Warner for his sausage making and meat processing skills. He will be remembered as an outstanding husband, father and grandfather to his three grandchildren, a role he truly loved. Blessed be his memory.
Harlan is survived by his wife of 56 years, Kay; son, Blake (Kris) Rehfeld of Aberdeen; grandchildren, Travis (Jessica) Rehfeld, Holly (Jerry) Pounds and Kimberly (Barry) O'Brien; great grandchildren, Jacob and Allison Rehfeld; and many nieces and nephews.
Harlan was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Aldin; and sisters Irene Meyer and Arlowyn Rehfeld.
