Mass of Christian Burial for Milbert F. Pietz, 81, of Aberdeen, will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 16, 2011, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 409 2nd Avenue NE, Aberdeen with Father J. Joseph Holzhauser officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens with military rites being conducted by Sidney L. Smith American Legion Post #24 of Aberdeen. Schriver's Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements.
Liturgical wake service will be 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Visitation will be 5-7pm Tuesday and one hour prior to the Mass on Wednesday, all at the church. Friends may sign his online guest book at the bottom of the page.
Milbert passed away Saturday, November 12, 2011, at Aberdeen Health & Rehab. Blessed be his memory.
Milbert F. Pietz was born on November 28, 1929 to Reinhold and Magdalena (Weiss) Pietz at Hosmer, SD. This is the area where he was raised and attended school.
Milbert entered active duty in the United States Army from October of 1951 to August of 1953. After receiving his Honorable Discharge, he returned to South Dakota, where he was employed with Preston?s Electric and later with SD Wheat Growers. Milbert married LaVerne Pfaff in May 23 1959. They shared over 28 years of marriage before she passed away on December 24, 1987. On June 16, 1990, Milbert was united in marriage to Sharon (Lilly) Herman at Aberdeen. He began retirement on January 1, 1991 and the couple continued to make Aberdeen their home until the time of his death.
Milbert was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and The American Legion. He was also a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Milbert loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman. He also enjoyed bowling and was a Minnesota Twins fan.
Surviving Milbert are his wife, Sharon Pietz of Aberdeen; four children, Kelly (Cheryl) Pietz of Aberdeen, Kevin Pietz of Aberdeen, Kim Deguzis (Kelly) Thorton of Lakewood, CO and Karrie Jo Tracy (Charles) Butler of Gillette, WY; three step-children, Brian Herman of Grand Forks, ND, Todd Herman of Iola, KS and Lisa (Randy) Konold of Watertown, SD; eight grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; four brothers, LeRoy Pietz of St. Louis Park, MN, Mervin Pietz of Aberdeen, Morries (Mavis) Pietz of Rosemount, MN and Gail Pietz of St. Paul, MN; and one sister, Shirleen (Dean) Tipton of Adams, MN.
Milbert is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, LaVerne; and one sister, Viola Scheid.
