Mass of Christian Burial for Stephen Henry Oakes, Jr., 57, Aberdeen, is 10:30am Thursday, February 17, 2011 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 409 3rd Ave. SE, with Father Edward Pierce officiating. Burial following at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Liturgical wake service is 7pm Wednesday, February 16, at Schriver's Memorial Mortuary & Crematory, 414 5th Ave. NW. Visitation is 4-7pm Wednesday, at the mortuary and one hour prior to the Mass Thursday, at the church.
Stephen passed away Thursday, February 10, 2011 at Avera St. Luke's Hospital, Aberdeen.
Stephen Henry Oakes was born June 29, 1953 to Stephen Henry, Sr. and Lorenzia (Heier) Oakes in Aberdeen, SD. He attended Aberdeen schools and graduated from Roncalli High in 1971. He attended Wahpeton State School of Science for two years and returned to Aberdeen. Stephen and Tracy Murray were married August 3, 1974 in Faith, SD. He was employed with K.O.Lee Company for 19 years and also with the Aberdeen Rural Fire Department.
Stephen and Joelene (Kessler) Bosch were united in marriage June 16, 2006 in Jackson Hole, WY. Stephen was employed at Kessler's for several years before he started his own karaoke business, "SHO Entertainment Company", which he owned and operated until his death. Stephen was an Eagle Scout, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking, camping, and gardening vegetables and flowers. He was a talented artist, drawing and painting.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Bobby, one infant daughter and one brother in law, Brian Weber.
Grateful to have shared in Stephen's life are his wife, Joelene Oakes, Aberdeen, SD, his parents, Stephen H., Sr. and Lorenzia Oakes, Aberdeen, SD, his children, Stephanie Oakes, Chippewa Falls, WI, Sammantha Oakes (Thad Larson), Aberdeen, SD, Robert Oakes (Anna Dale), Aberdeen, SD, Randall Oakes (Katrina Stoner), Rapid City, SD, his step children, Jennifer Bosch (Neville Anklesaria), Irvine, CA, Christy (Toby) Mertz, Bloomington, MN, and Matthew Bosch, Aberdeen, SD, six grandchildren, Alexander Eppard, Jordyn Oakes, Kendra Oakes, Jazzlyn Oakes, Julien Williams and Brooklyn Mertz, his siblings, Richard (Linda) Oakes, Okeechobee, FL, Deborah Hansen, Aitkin, MN, and Bonnie Weber, Henderson, MN.
