Joan J. Newcomb

Funeral service for Joan J. Newcomb, 78, of Aberdeen will be 11:00am Monday, October 17, 2011 at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Aberdeen. Rev. Jackie A. Bernacchi will be officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery. Schriver's Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, Aberdeen is in charge of arrangements.

Closed casket visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church, Monday. Friends may sign her online guest book at the bottom of the page.

Joan passed away Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at Aberdeen Health and Rehab.

Joan J. Cressman was born September 24, 1933 to Robert and Lucille (Pigott) Cressman at Bonesteel, SD. She was the youngest of four children.

Joan married Elmer Newcomb December 26, 1956 at Pierre, SD. Joan trained as a Registered Nurse at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, MN. She was subsequently employed as a nurse at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota, Calhoun County Memorial Hospital in Port Lavaca, Texas and later at St. Mary's Hospital in Pierre, South Dakota. They later relocated to Mobridge and then to Aberdeen.

Joan was active with the Episcopal Church, serving on the National Committee. While living in Aberdeen, Joan devoted her life to care for her grandson Steven, who was in need of full time medical and professional care.

Surviving Joan are, her loving husband, Elmer of Aberdeen, two sons, Paul Newcomb and Ted Newcomb both of Aberdeen, two sisters, Eileen King of Durham, NC and Ellen Foss of Tallahassee, FL and four grandchildren, Michael Newcomb, Ericka Bachmayer, Emily Newcomb and Coryn Newcomb.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Robert Cressman and her grandson, Steven Newcomb.
