Funeral service for Bruce Mitchell, 86, Aberdeen, will be 1:30pm Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at First United Methodist Church, 502 South Lincoln Street, with Pastor Eldon Reich officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Memorial Park, Aberdeen, with military rites by the Sidney l. Smith American Legion Post #24 of Aberdeen, SD.
Visitation will be 5-7pm Tuesday with the family at Schriver’s Memorial Mortuary & Crematory, 414 5th Ave NW, and also one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church.
Bruce passed away Friday, December 16, 2011 at Angelhaus Regional Basic Care Center, Aberdeen, SD.
Bruce was born March 1, 1925 to James H. and Flossie (Daker) Mitchell on the family farm near Houghton, SD. He graduated from Hecla High School in 1943. Bruce entered the United States Navy in 1944 and received his honorable discharge in 1946. He returned to South Dakota and attended USD in Vermillion, SD.
Bruce and Lorrayne Dinger were united in marriage September 4, 1948 in Hecla, SD. After graduating with a business major from USD in 1950, they moved to Hecla, SD. In January of 1951, they moved to Aberdeen, SD, and was employed with St. Paul Companies. They then moved to North Platte, NE in 1954 and returned to Aberdeen in 1959. In 1969 the family moved to Burnsville, MN, where he was Regional Manager for the North and South Dakota and Montana. After he retired in 1984, they returned to Aberdeen, SD.
Bruce enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and camping.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Don and Bob, and one sister, Florence Douglas.
Grateful to have shared Bruce’s life are his wife, Lorrayne Mitchell of Aberdeen, SD, his children, Bonnie (Craig) Golz of Aberdeen, SD, Becky (Bob) Littau of Winner, SD, Doug (Judith) Mitchell of Woodbury, MN, and Ann Mitchell of Minneapolis, MN. Bruce’s seven grandsons, Nicholas Golz, Nathan Golz, Jason Golz, Ryan Mitchell, Luke Littau, Will Littau and Logan Littau, and seven great grandchildren.
