Mass of Christian Burial for Ann Marie Meier, 100, of Aberdeen, will be 10:30 am, Saturday, October 1, 2011 at Avera Mother Joseph Manor Retirement Community Chapel, 1002 N. Jay St., Aberdeen, with Father Shaun Haggerty officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Aberdeen.
Liturgical Wake service will be 7pm Friday, September 30, at Schriver's Memorial Mortuary & Crematory, 414 5th Ave. NW. Visitation will be 3-7 pm, Friday, September 30, 2011 at the mortuary.
Ann passed away Friday, September 23, 2011 at Avera Mother Joseph Manor Retirement Community, Aberdeen. Blessed be her memory.
Ann Marie Menzia was born May 10, 1911 to Martin and Elizabeth (Volk) Menzia at Roscoe, SD. She attended and graduated from Roscoe High School. Ann worked in Aberdeen for several years before moving to Minneapolis, Minnesota where she was employed at Munsing-Wear Incorporated for 27 years.
Ann was united in marriage to Vernon H. Olsen on December 1, 1943. He passed away on June 17, 1965. She married Wendell "Slim" Meier on November 19, 1969. They moved to Aberdeen that same year. Ann and Wendell shared nearly 12 years of marriage before he passed away on July 26, 1981. She continued to make Aberdeen her home until moving into Davis Court, December 16, 1996 and into the Manor, August 7, 2007.
Ann was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, Aberdeen Senior Center and the Aberdeen Nutrition Program. She loved playing cards, working puzzles, traveling and was an avid Minnesota Twins fan. Ann especially enjoyed doing volunteer work and was chosen Volunteer of the Year by Governor George Mickelson on January 8, 1989.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; five brothers and one sister.
Survivors include many nieces and nephews and a very dear friend, JoAnn Eisenbeisz.
Pallbearers will be Greg Menzia, Jerome Menzia, Eldred Lindenfelser, Glenn Spitzer, John Spitzer and Kevin Myers. Organist will be Mary Beth Kelly and the soloist will be Rebecca Myers. Honorary pallbearers will be Staff of Avera Mother Joseph Manor Retirement Community Staff, and all of Ann's friends and family.
