Mass of Christian Burial for Leonard Albert Lippert, 85, Aberdeen, will be 1:30pm Friday, March 26, 2011 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 409 3rd Ave SE with Father Edward Pierce officiating. Burial at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, Ipswich, SD, will be at a later date. A time of fellowship and refreshments will follow the Mass at Schriver's Memorial Fellowship Center, 414 5th Ave. NW.
Liturgical wake service and Knights Of Columbus Rosary will begin at 7pm Thursday, March 24, at Schriver's Memorial Mortuary & Crematory, 414 5th Ave. NW. Visitation will be 4-7pm Thursday, at the mortuary and one hour prior to the Mass on Friday, at the church.
Leonard passed away Saturday, March 19, 2011 at Bethesda Home of Aberdeen.
Leonard Lippert was born November 25, 1925 to Jacob and Lydia (Hettick) Lippert in Tolstoy, SD. He graduated from Wishek High School, Wishek, ND, and then enlisted in the US Navy. After his discharge, he moved to Ipswich, SD.
Leonard and Mary Thares were united in marriage on December 27, 1947 in Ipswich, SD. They moved to Aberdeen where Leonard was employed with Northwestern Bell Telephone Company for over 40 years. He was transferred to Rapid City, SD, and later to Iowa and retired in 1986. He accepted employment in Stockholm, Sweden and later moved back to Iowa and then Aberdeen. Leonard enjoyed singing with the Dakota Heritage Barber Shop Chorus, woodworking and photography.
He preceded in death by his wife in February of 2004, one daughter Linda K. Lippert and one brother Roy Lippert.
Grateful to have shared in Leonard's life is his son Leonard Allen Lippert of Aberdeen, one sister, Darlene Hammrich of TN, and brothers in law, Tony Thares, Louis (Helen) Thares, Bernard (Delores) Thares and her sisters in law, Betty (Guthrie) Torp and Luverne Thares and many nieces and nephews.
