Mass of Christian Burial for Valentine K. "Val" Lacher, 77, of Aberdeen, will be 2:00 pm, Monday, June 13, 2011 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Aberdeen. Father Ed Pierce and Father Kevin Zilverberg will be officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Military Rites being conducted by Sidney L. Smith American Legion Post #24 of Aberdeen. Schriver's Memorial Mortuary & Crematory, Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements.
Liturgical wake service will be 5:00 pm, Sunday, June 12, 2011, at the mortuary followed by a Knights of Columbus Rosary. Visitation will be 3-5 pm Sunday, at the mortuary and one hour prior to the service at the church, Monday. Friends may sign his online guest book at the bottom of the page.
Val passed away on Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at his home in Aberdeen.
Valentine K. Lacher was born July 29, 1933 to John J. and Elizabeth (Sahli) Lacher at his home in Roscoe, SD. He farmed with his father in this area until 1956, when he entered the United States Army. Val served in the Korean War until his honorable discharge in 1958.
Val married Anna Norton in 1962 at Aberdeen. This marriage was blessed with five children. Val and Anna resided in Aberdeen their entire married life. Val was employed with KO Lee Company until the time of his retirement in 1996.
Val was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Aberdeen. He was very active in the Knights of Columbus, where he held most offices of the Third and Fourth Degrees. He also served as District Deputy and a Chairman for the State Third Degree and District Master for the State of South Dakota for the Fourth Degree. He also developed the KC Squires Youth Group when his sons were in high school.
Val is survived by his wife, Anna of Aberdeen; Children, Deb (Ed) Gillick of Ipswich, SD, Gerard Lacher of Aberdeen, Cathy (Jeff) Mohr of Hosmer, SD, Vincent (Shelly) Lacher of Minneapolis, MN and Renee (Tom) Kulesa of Aberdeen; Grandchildren, Kipp Mohr, Colton Mohr, Mitch Mohr, Lana Lacher, Ava Lacher, Liam Lacher, Tony Kulesa and Traci Kulesa; four adopted grandchildren; Svenja Ottovordemgentschenfelde of Germany, Ines Wolff of Germany, Yianzhu Lia "Angel" of China and Viktoriya Valentynivna Kryvonos of the Ukraine, three sisters; Barbara Fettig of Tracy, CA, Julia Gruenstein of Aberdeen and Viola (Bandy) Hettich of Selby, SD.
Val was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Pauline Voegele and Margaret Miller.
