In 1958, William graduated from Aberdeen Central High School. Thereafter, he enlisted in the United States Army Reserves. During his time in the service, he served in the Berlin Crisis in Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1965.

While in the service, he met Robertta A. Kahler and they were united in marriage on May 3, 1962, in Fort Smith, Arkansas. They had two children, a daughter, Lisa L. Kiser and a son, William J. William was a very faithful servant to his Heavenly Father. He regularly attended Our Savior's Lutheran Church until, for health reasons, he could no longer attend. He then faithfully watched The Christian Worship Hour with Pastor Harold E. Salem every Sunday morning. Over the past two years, he read the entire Bible four times. He just recently completed The Old Testament again.

William believed in service to his community. He was a Boy Scout Leader for his son?s scout troop. He was an active long-time member of the Exchange Club, where he held various positions locally and Regionally. He received numerous awards for his service and dedication to the club. During his last few years, he helped deliver Senior meals on Fridays.
