Mass of Christian Burial for Leitha Mae Janes, 90, Aberdeen, will be 10:30am Friday, June 3, 2011 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 409 3rd Ave SE. Leitha's son, Father David Janes will be the celebrant and Con-celebrating will be the Priests of the Diocese of Sioux Falls and Deacon Richard Kelly. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery following the lunch.
Liturgical Wake service followed by Catholic Daughters of The Americas Rosary will be 7pm Thursday, June 2, 2011 at Schriver's Memorial Mortuary & Crematory, 414 5th Ave. NW. Visitation will be 4-7pm Thursday, at the mortuary and one hour prior to the Mass on Friday, at the church.
Leitha passed away Sunday, May 29, 2011 at Avera Mother Joseph Manor Retirement Community, Aberdeen.
Leitha Mae Egert was born on January 10, 1921 to Hubert and Katherine (Behselich) in Aberdeen. She attended Sacred Heart grade school and Aberdeen Central High School. She worked at Franklyn Dairy.
She married Ivyl Janes on October 14, 1940 and they made their home in Aberdeen. She was a member of Catholic Daughters of the Americas since 1941 and served as an officer. She was a member of Christian Mothers; served 25 years as treasurer of Birthright. In 1945 she became a member of the Sacred Heart Altar Society Band 11 and served in various offices. She volunteered with R.S.V.P. and the Senior Citizens organization. She was a Eucharistic Minister at Sacred Heard church and sang in the funeral choir. She liked to embroider and crochet. She was an expert card player, especially bridge and she worked crossword puzzles.
Survivors include four sons: I. Landru (Vivian) Janes of Decker, Mich; Rev. David A. Janes, Aberdeen, Richard P. (Kathy) Janes of Huron, SD; Michael S. (Noi) Janes, Campo, CA; three daughters; Susan K. (Richard) Kolb of Leola, SD, Mary Ann Rombs, Aberdeen and Carol Ottenbacher, of Eureka, SD. one brother, Hubert William Egert of Bradenton, Fla; one sister, Geraldine Olson, Enfield, CT; one half sister, Marlys Vander Wal, of Volga, SD, one aunt, Viola Wieser, Rosholt, SD, 14 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Roncalli schools.
