Homer Patrick Huettl

Mass of Christian Burial for Homer Patrick Huettl, 85, of Aberdeen will be 10:30am, Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Aberdeen. Fr. Shane Stevens will be officiating. Burial will be 1:00pm at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Westport, SD. Schriver's Memorial Mortuary & Crematory, Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements.

Liturgical wake service will be 5:00pm Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at the mortuary. Visitation will be from 4-6pm Tuesday at the mortuary and one hour prior to the service at the church, Wednesday. Friends may sign his online guest book at the bottom of the page.

Homer passed away Friday, July 8, 2011 at Avera Mother Joseph Manor.

Homer Patrick Huettl was born November 11, 1925 to George and Lucille (Doyle) Huettl at Britton, SD. He was raised on the family farm West of Westport, SD. His father passed away at the age of thirteen. He had to leave school to keep the farm going. After several breaks for farm work, he graduated from Westport High School in 1945.

Homer enjoyed basketball, hunting West River, trips across the nation visiting relatives in southern Indiana, buying cars in Detroit and driving them back with his uncles and he also enjoyed a good street dance and having fun with friends.

Homer took a position with Sunkist Growers in the 1950's. He was a traveling salesman for the company for several years.

Homer met Rita M. Scheller in Indianapolis, IN while she was doing theater work at the Knights of Columbus Hall. They were married May 5, 1962 in Indianapolis. They made their home on the farm near Westport. They later moved to Aberdeen where Homer had an ownership interest in the CreeMee Ice Cream Shop. He also started working at Hub City Iron where he was employed as a welder until his retirement.

Homer and Rita enjoyed bus tours, a trip to Germany and trips to Florida to visit their daughter.

Surviving Homer are his wife, Rita of Aberdeen, two daughters, Patrice Huettl of Petersburg, AK and Julie Huettl of Ormond Beach, FL, one son, Theodore (Lucie) Huettl of Rapid City, SD and one sister, Sr. Mary Aileen Huettl of Presentation Heights in Aberdeen.

Homer was preceded in death by his parents and his one brother, George Huettl.
