Dora Elizabeth Herman

Mass of Christian Burial for Dora Elizabeth Herman, 93, formerly of Barnard, Westport, will be 11:00am Saturday, October 29, 2011 at Scared Heart Catholic Church in Westport, SD. Father Tom Anderson will be the celebrant. Burial will be at Wayside Cemetery, Frederick, SD, following the lunch and time of fellowship.

Liturgical wake service will be 7pm Friday, October 28, at the church in Westport. Visitation will be one hour prior to the wake service on Friday and one hour prior to the Mass on Saturday, all at the church.

Schriver's Memorial Mortuary & Crematory, 414 5th Ave. NW is in charge of arrangements.

Dora passed away Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at Avera Mother Joseph Manor Retirement Community. Her wishes are to be cremated.

Dora Elizabeth Peterson was born November 19, 1917 to Nels Christian and Carrie (Larsen) Peterson, who were Danish immigrants, in Barnard, SD.

She married Charles Herman, May 6, 1939 in Bowdle, SD. They moved to Barnard and established a farm where they were active for more than 50 years. They enjoyed their retirement years in Westport, SD.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Sacred Heart Altar Society of Westport, SD.

Dora always enjoyed having company, friends and family stop over for a cup of coffee, and crocheting, knitting, gardening and Extension Club activities.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband in November of 1999, one infant daughter, Marie, one granddaughter, Kadora, one great grandson, Eric O'Day, two brothers and five sisters.

Grateful to have shared in Dora's life are her children, Paul (Sandra) Herman of Pierre, SD, Karen Herman of Eaton, CO, Neil (Janet) Herman of Omaha, NE, Gail Gage of Peoria, AZ, Bruce (Donna) Herman of Spring, TX, and Mark (Janet) Herman of Aberdeen, SD, twenty grandchildren, twenty-five great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren.
