Funeral service for Viola Lydia Gerving, 91, of Aberdeen will be 10:30am Friday, May 13, 2011 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Aberdeen. Pastor Chris Anderson will be officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Schriver's Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, Aberdeen is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be 5-7pm Thursday at the mortuary and one hour prior to the service Friday at the church. Friends may sign her online guest at www.schriversmemorial .com.
Viola passed away Monday, May 9, 2011 at ManorCare Health Services.
Viola Lydia Martell was born January 23, 1920 to John and Martha (Mohr) Martell near Hosmer, SD on the family farm where she was raised and attended rural schools. She moved to Illinois and worked in a munitions factory during WWII. She later returned to the Hosmer area.
Viola married Roney Gerving in 1945 at Carson, ND. They farmed in the Hosmer area for many years. In 1962, they moved to Aberdeen. Viola worked at May's Café and Iseman Mobil Homes. Roney passed away in 1992 and Viloa has continued to make Aberdeen her home.
Viola was a forty-five year member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and she enjoyed cooking and crocheting.
Surviving Viola are , one daughter, Patricia Bierman of Fargo, ND two sons, John Gerving of Cambridge, MN, and Keith Gerving of Aberdeen, two sisters, Margaret Opp of Pierre, SD and Florence Heib of Aberdeen, three grandchildren, Jodi (Calvin) Gardner, Jill (Jason) Palmer and Jackie Bierman and three great grandchildren, Heaven Gardner, Anthony Gardner and Brianna Palmer.
Viola was preceded in death by parents, her husband and four sisters, Irene, Joan, Olivia and Evangeline and two infant brothers.
