Mass of Christian Burial for Vera Mae Forsting, 89, Columbia, will be 11:00am Thursday, January 19, 2012 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Westport, SD, with Father Tom Anderson officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Aberdeen.
Liturgical wake service and Rosary will be 7pm Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at Schriver's Memorial Mortuary & Crematory, 414 5th Ave. NW, Aberdeen. Visitation will be 4-7pm Wednesday at the mortuary and one hour prior to the Mass on Thursday at the church.
Vera passed away on Saturday, January 14, 2012 at Avera St. Luke?s Hospital, Aberdeen. Blessed be her memory.
Vera Mae Gemar was born September 6, 1922 in rural Fullerton, ND to Carl and Hilda (Ulmer) Gemar. When she was a small child, the family farm was destroyed by fire due to a lightning storm which started Carl to begin a history of running hardware stores that moved the family from Fullerton, ND to Edgley, ND and finally to Aberdeen, SD where Vera graduated from Aberdeen Central High School in 1942. She was employed by J.C. Penny's and the Dakota Farmer Newspaper until the time of her marriage. Vera and Russell Forsting were united in marriage on December 11, 1945 in Hecla, SD and began a long career as a farm wife in rural Barnard, SD where Vera resided up to the time of her death.
Vera was a beloved member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, in Westport, SD.
Vera will forever be remembered for her fiery German temper, her incredible work ethic which she passed on to all of her children, her dry sense of humor, the love of her church friends and her amazing Christmas Cookies.
Happy to have shared in her life are her children, daughter, Shirley (Stephen) Ellwein, of Fort Pierre, SD, two sons, Jerry (Melissa) Forsting, of Garden Grove, CA, and Jeff (Kristi) Forsting, of Columbia, SD., four grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Hilda Gemar, her sister Viola Christensen, Her husband Russell Forsting and her son Robert Forsting.
