Emma Frances Gillick

Mass of Christian Burial for Emma Frances Gillick, 90, Aberdeen and formerly of Ipswich, will be 2:30pm Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Ipswich, with Father Randy Phillips officiating. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery under the direction of Schriver's Memorial Mortuary & Crematory, Aberdeen.

Liturgical wake service will be 7pm Monday, January 3, 2011 at Avera Mother Joseph Manor Chapel, Aberdeen.  Visitation will be 2-4pm Monday at Schriver's Memorial Mortuary & Crematory and one hour prior to the wake service at Avera Mother Joseph Manor Chapel, and one hour prior to the funeral service on Tuesday, at the church.

Emma passed away Friday, December 31, 2010 at Avera Mother Joseph Manor Retirement Community, Aberdeen.

Emma F. Buechler was born March 31, 1920 to Michael and Elizabeth (Geffre) Buechler in Leola, SD, where she also attended school.

Emma and Donald Gillick were united in marriage March 1, 1945 in Leola, SD.  They made their home on a farm in the Ipswich area.  In the early 1950's they moved into Ipswich where Emma worked as a housekeeper and also still worked on the farm.  She moved to Aberdeen in February of 2008.

She was a member of the Holy Cross Altar Society, Prayer Group and the American Legion Auxiliary of Ipswich.  Emma enjoyed embroidery, playing cards, bingo, gardening and lived for the Minnesota Twins Baseball.

Preceded Emma in death are her parents, husband, Donald, two brothers, Carl and Pete Buechler, her sister, Amelia Kramer, an infant sister Marie Buechler and her son in law, Will Harder.

Grateful to share in Emma's life are her children, Pat (Mona) Gillick and Carol Harder both of Aberdeen, and Elaine (Jack) Geffre of Leola, four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.  Three sisters, Elizabeth Liedle, Theresa Sahli, Joey Huber and one brother Walt Buechler.
