     Robert L. Arneson, 87, of Aberdeen, passed away Monday, May 15, 2017, at his residence.

     His funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 18, 2017, at Schriver’s Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, with Pastor Rhia Strohm officiating.

     Burial, with military rites, will follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Aberdeen.

     Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday.

     Robert Leo Arneson was born May 21, 1929, to Thomas and Lillian (Forschen) Arneson in Antler, ND.  This is the area where he was raised and attended school.

     Robert enlisted in the United States Army on January 10, 1952.  While serving his country, he earned the Combat Infantry Badge and Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars.   In July of 1952, Robert was injured in combat in Korea and was awarded the Purple Heart Medal.  Following his honorable discharge, he returned to North Dakota.

     Robert was united in marriage to Helen A. Dionne at Mohall, ND in 1954.  The couple lived in various places throughout the upper Midwest due to Robert’s employment.  In 1968, they moved to the Aberdeen area, where they farmed for many years.  Robert and Helen shared 57 years of marriage before she passed away on October 6, 2011.  Robert continued to make Aberdeen his home until the time of his death.

     In his spare time, Robert enjoyed refurbishing tractors and cars.  He also loved dancing.

     Grateful to have shared in Robert’s life are his nine children:  Wayne (Roxanne) Arneson and David (Sherry) Arneson, both of Aberdeen, Barbara Likness of Groton, SD, Roger Arneson, Larry Arneson, Jerry (Michelle) Arneson and Mary (Erv) Malsam, all of Aberdeen, Judy (Miguel) Shaw of Ipswich, SD, and Sherry (Greg) Siva of Pala, CA; 19 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; one brother, Delno Arneson of Antler, ND; and two sisters, Shirley Kissner and Catlin Pearson, both of North Dakota.

     Robert is preceded in death by his wife, his parents, ten siblings, and one grandchild.
