     Mass of Christian burial for Lorraine Alice Gruenstein, 82, of Aberdeen, will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 29, 2016, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 409 2nd Avenue NE, Aberdeen, with Father Michael Griffin as celebrant.

     Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

     Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Friday, at the mortuary, with a liturgical wake service and rosary led by members of The Catholic Daughters of the Americas beginning at 7:00 p.m.  Visitation continues one hour prior to Mass at church on Saturday.

     Lorraine passed away Monday, October 24, 2016, at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital in Aberdeen, surrounded by her loving family.  Blessed be her memory.

     Lorraine Alice (Huettl) Gruenstein was born August 4, 1934, in Aberdeen, SD, to Charles and Esther (Warvick) Huettl.  She was raised in the Columbia, SD area and attended country schools before graduating from Westport High School in Westport, SD.  Lorraine furthered her education at Mount Marty College in Yankton, SD, before returning to Aberdeen.

     Lorraine was united in marriage to Roy H. Gruenstein on August 10, 1955, in Westport.  Their union was blessed with six children.  In addition to being a housewife, Lorraine worked various jobs before beginning employment at Winkler Chiropractic Clinic, where she served as office manager until the time of her retirement.  She continued to reside in Aberdeen until her death.

     Lorraine was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Aberdeen, where she was a 50-plus year member of The Catholic Daughters of the Americas and also a member of The Christian Mothers.

     Blessed to have shared in Lorraine’s life is her husband, Roy H. Gruenstein of Aberdeen; children:  Sandra (Karl Matz) Gruenstein of Mankato, MN, Sheryl (Michael) Evelo of Rhinelander, WI, Charles (Bea) Gruenstein of Aberdeen; Susan (Steven) Harr of Helena, MT and Shelli (Kevin) Wertz of Oakes, ND; seven grandchildren:  Shawn (Casey) Neitzel, Jessica Evelo, Jeremy (Daleen) Evelo, David Evelo, Kristen (Carrington) Mead, Katelyn Wertz and Makenzie Wertz; five great-grandchildren:  Harper Neitzel, Samantha and Brandon Hill and Angelica and Roy Evelo; sister-in-law, Caroline Huettl of Coon Rapids, MN; brother-in-law, Lyle Walker of Bath, SD; one sister, Marjorie (Edward) Hunecker of Little Rock, AR; one brother, Robert (Patricia) Huettl of South Bend, IN; and many nieces and nephews.

     Lorraine is preceded in death by her parents, infant daughter, Mary Therese Gruenstein; one brother, Clarence Huettl; and one sister, Rosemary Walker.
