Jack J. Barr was born on October 5, 1924, in Winterset, IA, to Earl M. and Mayme E. (Johnsen) Barr.  In 1929, Jack and his family moved to Lemmon, SD, where he received his education.

Jack entered the United States Army on May 7, 1943, and served his country in the Mediterranean Theater and in North Africa.  Upon receiving his Honorable Discharge on January 28, 1946, Jack returned to Aberdeen and began what would become a 28-year career with K.O. Lee Company.  While working at K.O. Lee, Jack met the woman who would eventually become his wife, Inez Dorothy (Sime) Close.

Jack and Inez were united in marriage on January 9, 1998, in Aberdeen.   The couple made Aberdeen their home and shared almost 12 years of marriage before she passed away on December 17, 2010.  Jack continued to reside in Aberdeen until the time of his death.

Jack was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 17 and Sidney L.  Smith American Legion Post #24, both of Aberdeen.

In his spare time, Jack enjoyed visiting with friends and going out to eat.  He also loved woodworking and helping his neighbors.

Grateful to have been part of Jack’s life are his sons, Dewey (Vickie) Barr of Stover, MO and Lyle (Kenette) Barr of Loveland, CO; four grandchildren; and one brother, James (Evonne) Barr of Sioux Falls, SD.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister.
