Memorial services for Eunice “JoAnne” Jensen Fisher, 81, of Aberdeen, will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 16, 2016, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1620 Milwaukee Avenue NE, Aberdeen, with Pastor Kevin Bergeson officiating.

Burial will take place at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Aberdeen.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Thursday, at the mortuary, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.

JoAnne passed away Monday, September 12, 2016, at Avera Mother Joseph Manor in Aberdeen.

Eunice “JoAnne” Wallace was born on the family farm near Hurley, SD, on February 23, 1935, to Frank and Gladys (Sedelmeier) Wallace. During her school years in Hurley, she often rode the family’s plow horse to get to school.  Following high school graduation, JoAnne attended Mount Mary College in Yankton, SD, before obtaining her LPN license from Lake Area Vocational Technical School in Watertown, SD, in 1975.

JoAnne was united in marriage to Gorden Jensen in Yankton, SD, on June 9, 1955. The couple was blessed with two children, Christy and Ellen. They shared 26 years of marriage before Gorden passed away in 1981.  JoAnne spent several years as a nurse in various positions.  She worked for Dr. Carter, as well as in the Emergency Room and Mental Health Unit of St. Luke’s Hospital. JoAnne was later married to Joseph R. Fisher from 1992 until 2003.

JoAnne’s passions included a good card game of Bridge and watching her grandchildren participate in sports.  She was also a valued member of the Arabian Horse Association, where she was often the Show Secretary for the shows.  In her younger years, JoAnne was an active member of the ladies of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Her compassionate nature was apparent in her work as a nurse, as a volunteer at church, with her family, and also in the care she gave several pets through the years.  Her cats  “Heidi” and “Oliver” held a special place in her heart.

Grateful for sharing in JoAnne’s life are her two daughters, Christy (Keith) Rodgers of Spearfish, SD and Ellen (Tom) Washenberger of Aberdeen; six grandchildren: Alex, Nicole, and Jordan Washenberger, and Jessica, Zachary, and Elijah Rodgers; two great-grandchildren, Harmony Sky Washenberger and Jayden Rodgers; two brothers, Jerry Wallace of Norfolk, NE and James Wallace of Sioux Falls, SD; one brother-in-law, Gerald (Joyce) Jensen of Green Bay, WI; and two sisters-in-law, Anita Wallace of Shawano, WI and Donna (Kermit) Smith of Ft. Dodge, IA.

JoAnne was preceded in death by her husband, Gorden; her parents, Frank and Gladys; her stepfather, Dale Rayburn; and her brother, Charles Wallace.
