     Eugene Lehr, 88, of Aberdeen, passed away Friday, July 15, 2016, at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital in Aberdeen.

     His funeral will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 20, 2016, at First United Methodist Church, 502 South Lincoln St., Aberdeen, with Pastor Derek Baum officiating.

     Burial, with military rites being conducted by Sidney L. Smith American Legion Post #24 of Aberdeen, will take place at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery in Aberdeen.

     Schriver’s Memorial Mortuary & Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements.  

    Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, at the mortuary followed by a public prayer service at 7:00 p.m.  Visitation continues one hour prior to the service at church on Wednesday.

     Eugene Lehr was born on August 21, 1927, to Adolph and Minnie (Sayler) Lehr in Hillsview, SD.  In 1928, he and his family moved to a farm northeast of Roscoe, SD.  Eugene attended a nearby farm school before attending and graduating from Roscoe High School in 1946.  He then furthered his education at the State School of Science in Wahpeton, ND.  

     On February 21, 1951, Eugene entered the United States Army and was stationed at Ft. Worden, Washington.  He served his country during the Korean War and was involved in the atomic bomb test in 1952.  Eugene was honorably discharged on February 20, 1953, and returned to Roscoe.  

     Eugene farmed for two years before beginning employment with Dakota Sash & Door in Aberdeen in the fall of 1954.  He would hold a 25-year career with them before becoming a Press Operator at the Department of Labor in Aberdeen in April of 1979.  Eugene remained employed there for 15 years before retiring in May of 1994.

     Eugene was united in marriage to Marilyn Joan Wiseman on June 30, 1972, in Aberdeen.  The couple continued to make Aberdeen their home until the time of his death.

     Eugene was a member of First United Methodist Church in Aberdeen and also a 60-year member of American Legion Post #259.  He and Marilyn loved traveling and enjoyed many trips to Texas, Nashville, and Branson.   

     Grateful to have shared Eugene’s life are his wife, Marilyn Lehr of Aberdeen; sisters-and brothers-in-law:  Dorothy Bossly, Lawrence (Jeanette) Wiseman, and Joyce (Art) Dahme, all of Aberdeen; nephews:  Dean Lehr, Marlin Lehr, Dennis Lehr, Hugh (Karen) Dahme, Ed Wiseman, and Gary Wiseman.

     Eugene is preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Edwin Lehr and Elmer Lehr.
