Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Friday, June 16th, at the mortuary, followed by a liturgical wake service at 7:00 p.m.

Elizabeth “Betty” (Meier) Daschle was born on April 3, 1923, to Andrew and Magdalena (Ehnes) Meier near Roscoe, SD, where she attended school. She was the second oldest of twelve children.

Following WWII, Betty married Sebastian (Dash) Daschle on January 16, 1946.  It is noteworthy that she made her wedding dress from a parachute that Dash brought home from the battlefields of Europe.  The newly married couple moved to Aberdeen where they made their life together for the next 51 years.  They had four sons: Tom, Dave, Greg and Steve. Betty continued living in Aberdeen until she moved to the Aegis Living facility in Redmond, Washington in 2012.

Betty was a woman of many talents and interests.  An accomplished chef, she wrote and published her own cookbook.  Dancing, bridge, gardening and politics were her passions, but her family was central to her entire life.  Beginning with her husband and four sons, and extending to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Betty devoted her lifelong time and loving attention to each.  She worked as a volunteer in her son, Tom’s, congressional offices for virtually the entire 26 years that he served in office.

Survivors include three sons:  Tom (Linda) Daschle of Washington, DC, Dave (Cheri) Daschle of Steamboat Springs, Colorado and Steve (Mary Bourguignon) Daschle of Redmond, Washington; three brothers:  Henry Meier of Sacramento, California, and Larry and Andy Meier, both of Rapid City, SD; three sisters:  Loretta Abeln and Shirley Gellhaus of Aberdeen and Adele Davies of Ft. Myers, Florida; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Dash; her son, Greg; and siblings:  George Meier, Bernadine Morgan, Roy Meier, Margaret Veith, Carolyn Heier, and Frances Meier.
