Elizabeth Laura (Payne) Johnson was born on October 31, 1925, to Floyd Howard and Katherine (Bossly) Payne in Aberdeen, SD.  She was raised in the Mansfield, SD area and attended Central High School in Aberdeen.  After graduating from high school, Elizabeth moved to Washington, DC and was employed by the FBI.

Elizabeth was united in marriage to Dennis Johnson on November 30, 1944, in Washington.  Upon Dennis’ honorable discharge from the Marines, the couple moved back to South Dakota to a farm west of Scatterwood Lake.  They lived and farmed there until retiring in 2005, when they moved to Aberdeen.

Elizabeth was a member of the Mansfield Legion Auxiliary, Faulk County Extension Club, Union Township Treasurer, and also a member and President of the Scatterwood Community Club.  In addition, she was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Chelsea, where she held various positions and offices.

Elizabeth and Dennis had a love of antiques and collected many treasures throughout the years.  This appreciation was passed down and is shared by their grandchildren today.
