Alice J. (Geffre) Braun was born on December 27, 1928 to Joseph and Mary (Hartmann) Geffre on the family farm one mile east of Leola, SD.  This is the area where she was raised and completed country school in the 8th grade.  Alice helped her father on the farm.  She was a tomboy and loved the outdoors.  Alice often spoke about having fun with her brother, Andrew, when they would go out to catch skunks.

Alice met the love of her life, George J. Braun, at a dance.  They were united in marriage on October 25, 1950.  Their union was blessed with two daughters, Linda and Bonnie.  In 1958, George and Alice took in their niece, Carol Ann, who came to live with them following the death of Alice’s sister, Grace, and her husband, Gordon.  In addition to being a housewife, Alice also enjoyed babysitting for several college teachers’ children.

Alice was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Aberdeen and volunteered for many years at Roncalli Nearly New.  She was a loving neighbor who opened her heart and home to all who needed love and care.  Alice taught the love of God to many.

In her spare time, Alice enjoyed going to rummage sales, baking, and cooking.  Her family, however, was the true joy of her life and she especially loved tending to her grandchildren.

Blessed to have shared Alice’s life are her children:  Linda (Chuck) Forrest and Bonnie (Jim) Grandpre, both of Aberdeen; niece, Carol Ann (Kenny) Miller of Aberdeen; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Gerald Geffre; and three sisters:  Christina Feickert, Blanche Harkness and Margaret Frank.

Alice is preceded in death by her husband, George; her parents, two brothers and four sisters.
